Open sauce fundamentalists slap a fatwa on Vista

FREEDOM. IT'S ALL ABOUT FREEDOM, apparently. Nasty old Microsoft must be stopped at all costs and the lovely kitten and fluffy bunny-friendly open source alternatives must be adopted instead.

This is the latest proclamation from Grand Ayatollah John Sullivan of the extremist Free Software Foundation, adding that Microsoft eats babies and has evil plans to stop people stealing music and videos.

Leaving aside for a moment that the FSF is largely comprised of sad loners of questionable hygiene who still live with their mothers, surely freedom to choose an OS means you can use any one you fancy, not just the ones that aren't on the FSF's List Of Death™?

Like all fundamentalists, the FSF fervently believes that if you ain't with 'em, you're agin 'em. What they believe is right and everyone else is wrong. You are free to choose as long as you choose to agree with them.

For people like this to bleat about freedom is disingenuous in the extreme. The software Taliban want to impose their will on you because it's for your own good. They are the way, the truth and the light.

No you're not, guys. You're a bunch of people who should get out more. No normal person gives a rat's ass about operating systems. They just want to get on with their jobs. No one else cares if the software has a window or a penguin on it, as long as it works.

I already have freedom of choice in what operating system I use and I choose Microsoft. µ

Do you think the move was justified?
