World waits for i845 launch

But dealers don't have to

THE CHIPSET THAT DARE not speak its name, the i845, is speaking its name bigtime in the manual for two of Intel's own motherboards that use it.

The i845 is, as everyone knows, but Intel has not confirmed, released on the 10th of September, and the D845HV and D845W motherboards testify to that fact.

They've both been in the channel for some weeks now and each uses the i845 mobo in its SDRAM flavour.

The boards, as the manuals say, support just on Intel Pentium 4 in its mPGA-478 package.

And although they don't yet seem to be on this Intel list, they will be, come September 10th.

Here's an interesting note from the manual we saw: "The D845HV and D845WN desktop boards have been designed to support DIMMs based on 512Mbit technology up to 3GB, but this technology has not been validated on these boards."

The Intel order number is A61038-001. Expect a rush of i845 SDRAM boards from Intella's partners on the 10th. ยต
