NEC to make "son of Gamecube" chip for Nintendo

NEWS WIRE Bloomberg said that NEC and Nintendo are working together to create a semiconductor for the successor to the Gamecube console in a bid to keep up with the Playstation 3.

NEC helped Nintendo to make a systems graphics processor for the current Gamecube.

Sony's Playstation 3 is expected to use technology from both IBM and Toshiba.

Gamecube currently uses ATI graphics technology, while NEC developed a chip for the SEGA Dreamcast.ATI bought ArtX, which was the original Nintendo partner. µ

* THE SAME wire said that Nintendo has released The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (Kaze No Takuto) in Japan today.
