Symantec boss to buy a Mac

So much for software protection
Tue May 16 2006, 08:44
SYMANTEC boss John Thompson has told news.com that his next computer will probably be a Mac.,P. He said that the "target-rich" environment created by Windows vulnerabilities meant that virus writers and hackers have set their sights on Windows PCs.

Thompson said that if more people did go out and buy Macs, virus writers might change their tactics, but at the moment they are not.

He did add that a lot of the new breed of attacks on computers were phishing or identity theft, in which operating systems were not important. It seems a little odd that rather than try and push anti-virus or firewall protection for the PC, which his company makes, Thompson instead suggests another operating system.

However Thompson said that what ever operating system you use, you still need to take steps to ensure your data will be protected.
