No man was more foolish when he had not a pen in his hand, or more wise when he had - Samuel Johnson
This time it is a low-priced Windows bundle being peddled to Malaysian users, that the company hopes will woo users away from the cheaper penguin.
According to Microsoft Watch a bundle of XP Home and the Microsoft Works suite will be offered for low-cost PCs under the auspices of the Malaysian government's PC Gemilang Project.
According to a Microsoft statement the PC Gemilang program one of the innovative programs that Microsoft is creating in emerging countries to develop, enhance and expand local skills that enable individuals to realize the benefits of a robust, global IT industry."
However, it looks similar to one that Microsoft struck with the Thai government last year following the news that Linux was doing well there.
The Redmond giant began offering Thai citizens a bundle of Microsoft Windows XP Home and Office XP Standard. Under the auspices of the Thai government's "People PC" project, Microsoft provided a Thai-localized version of its operating system and desktop suite.
The only difference is that under the Gemilang programme, the Malaysian government offers consumers a choice of a Linux bundle or a Windows bundle, meaning the two compete on price. µ
