Microsoft emits Windows XP patches

SOFTWARE FIRM Microsoft has made several important security fixes available for Windows XP.

Five of the bandages are dubbed critical and prevent crooks interfering with your computer from a distance.

If your PC doesn't auto download and install these fixes, it might be worthwhile getting them through Windows Update and slapping them on with vinegar and brown paper.

Microsoft offers IE 7 as an "upgrade" on Windows Update. If you don't want this, unclick the check button. µ
