Wednesday, 8 October 2008, 15:21

SYMANTEC ANNOUNCED the acquisition of MessageLabs, the leading online message and Web security services provider, for $695 million in cash today.

This latest deal gives Symantec a lead in the fast growing Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) segment.

By up-selling and cross-selling its existing SaaS backup, storage and online remote access into MessageLabs' customer base, Symantec will definitely benefit.

John W Thompson of Symantec said, “MessageLabs extends our investments in the Software-as-a Service segment and will allow us to offer our customers unprecedented choice from a single provider of message security solutions.”

While Adrian Chamberlain of MessageLabs comments that, “Symantec and MessageLabs have a common belief in the benefits of in-the-cloud services and how they enable customers to be protected from threats and enforce policy,”

This agreement is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.µ
