ATI shows off native Displayport

A first on unannounced GPUs
Wed Aug 01 2007, 19:05
WORD HAS REACHED us that ATI is showing off native Displayport on an upcoming GPU at the VESA Displayport plugfest going on now.

It is said that the firm is doing this on an unannounced GPU. If they already have silicon, that would put it at the 2400/2600/2900 refresh due out late this year or early next.

As far as we are aware, this is the first semi-publicly displayed GPU with native Displayport capabilities. For those of you who don't know, Displayport is the next-gen digital interface that will replace DVI.

It looks like the transition will begin in earnest in 2008, DRM infestation and all. µ
