Intel claims it has working 45 nanometre chips

Smaller equals more chip per wafer
Thursday, 26 January 2006, 07:10
CHIP FIRM Intel said it has created functional SRAM chips using 45 nanometre technology.

Intel is already migrating its fabrication plants to 65 nanometre technology - when it moves to a future process, it generally announces it's created memory cells using the new architecture.

The firm said it has two fabs already making 65 nanometre chips in Arizona and Oregon, with two more expected to start production in Oregon and Ireland.

It said the 45 nanometre memory chip has over one billion transistors, but it is proof of a concept rather than a product. It will make chips using this tech at Fab 32 in Arizona and Fab 28 in Israel. ยต
