A CHINESE games company has created an online game for youngsters to encourage them to emulate a hero of the glorious revolution, Lei Feng.

For those who don't know Lei Feng was a People's Liberation Army solder who was characterised by propaganda as a cheerfully selfless and modest bloke who died aged 22 helping a truck that reversed into him. For two years before he was killed, Feng allegedly spent all his spare time and money helping the needy.

According to Lei Feng newspaper, an online roleplaying game called "Learn from Lei Feng," is encouraging students to follow in his footsteps.

You start out sewing and mending socks to get enough experience to upgrade. As you are promoted up the levels your clothes will become more average. The more good deeds you do, such as helping on building sites, the better your reputation. If your energy gets low, you can touch base with the local Party secretary who replenishes your strength.

The goal of the game is to meet Chairman Mao. The article did not name the company who made the game, but said the local youth was dead keen on it, apparently.
