IBM wants US government to ban Asustek products

It's kept trying to reach an agreement
Friday, 7 December 2007, 10:25

BIG GLUE said it has made whiny noises to the US International Trade Commission (ITC) against Asustek , alleging the Taiwanese firm has breached three of its patents.

IBM said that it's tried repeatedly to strike a deal with Asustek over the patents and now it wants the ITC to grant it an exclusion order against the firm, preventing it from importing some bits and pieces into the USA.

Three patents are what's gnawing at Big Glue, covering power supplies, cooling and clustering, incorporated in a multitude of computer products including notebooks, desktops, servers, routers and other stuff.

The patents are 5,008, 829; 5,249,741; and 5,371,852 - these cover PC power supplies; auto fan speed controls; and a method for making a cluster of computers look like a single host on a network.

Asustek - named after a flying horse called Pegasus - filed a statement with the Taiex bourse today, stating it was seeking clarification from IBM. µ

Fsck them

Jesus... so I shall not make my own home made power supplies with automatic fan regulation because IBM has a patent?

Will those idiots from the patent office ever consider NOT granting a patent to _anyone_ for things which are so simple and obvious that a 3 year old could "invent" them?

Seriously, some alien race should come by, bring a couple of huge hydrogen bombs, and nuke this stupid planet and its stupid population out of existence.

Oh wait, someone has patented hydrogen bombs... D'oh!
