LG.Philips puts top TFT on phones

Brighter, sharper displays calling

LG Philips has a screen for the next generation of phones, according to Digitimes .

The panel is a TFT LCD with super-fast response times, the report says. That should help it be a shoo-in for TV broadcasts, You Tube viewing, digital pics and so on.

LG Philips reckons it will go into mass production this year but be warned that this is only a 2in unit so don't go expecting it to appear on top-notch handhelds or even the next gen of iPod-alikes.

The real action over 2008 is likely to be in the 3in arena as firms attempt to create the killer screen for pocket media players.

The best phone screen/camera combination in the mainstream category this correspondent has seen is on the Orange SPV C600 -- sometimes known in these parts as the Nice-camera-shame-about-the-phone. µ
