Whale watering-can auction hit by fake bids

Makes one feel a bit Moby
Wed Jan 25 2006, 11:37
THE ATTEMPT to raise funds for the busybodies who inadvertently killed London's infamous wandering whale may have struck an electronic iceberg.

Whereas bids for the watering can used to keep the stricken mammal wet were heading towards the £10k mark on ebay yesterday, now the bidding has seemingly gone through the roof. Bids of a million quid or so have the seller worried that he's been bombared by shysters.

At the time of writing, the bidding stands at a whopping £112,700.

It hoped , of course that this bid is legit. Proceeds from the auction will go to the British Divers Marine Life Rescue organisation, which reckons it spent close to £100,000 in its failed attempt to save the blubbery one. µ
