School sues Microsoft over copyright

Alleges it illegally distributed manual
Monday, 17 December 2007, 10:43

A PHILIPPINES SCHOOL started a legal case against Microsoft.

The school, based in Pasay City, alleges Microsoft distributed a manual it created called the SEC Microsoft Office XP manual, according to the inquirer.net (no relation).

But it's complicated because the wire reports Microsoft Philippines bought licences to print the manual back in 2004.

Microsoft, according to the same wire, said that it regretted the legal case, as it had worked with the Southeastern College to resolve the matter. ยต

Bulok na talaga

What to expect from a country where the president is rated as the most corrupted ever (even more than Marcos himself!)?

Everything is rotten from head to toe in the Philippines. Oligarchy is keeping the people poor in order to maintain the incredible wealth of the richest families at the highest level.

Microsoft is another unethical company whish sell Windows Vista for more than a month wage in Manila and pirates school in order to sale more copies.

How disgusting. Bill and France Foundation should put its big nose in poor people countries and check what's the ethic of Microsoft in every of them starting with the way the company joined Inded for kicking the face of Negroponte and its OLPC.

THE WORLD WILL DIE OF UNETHICAL BEHAVIOR!!!

Bulok blah blah

First you rant about how corrupt the Phillipine govt is and then move on to how corrupt MS is for selling a product that the poor souls can't afford.

This is just another post where an MS hater crawls out from under his/her rock and tries to feed and entertain their sense of self importance.

It's not MS' fault that poor countries cannot afford to buy products they want. Should MS (or ANY company)profit off the backs of those people who can afford to pay while giving those who can't a nearly free ride?

The drug companies do this all the time. Pay their R&D costs off the backs of Americans and then selling the same drugs at a fraction of the price to the third world and getting what they can from those countries whose govt's set price controls on them.

For the record just because someone in the States may make 10x more money than someone else does not make them 10x richer. With those higher wages comes higher costs of living such as rent, home prices, food, utilities etc.

Don't get me wrong I'm sorry other people are living in poverty and live worse off than even some of the poorest here in the States do, but we have bills to pay to and we make choices based upon our ability to pay.

Even in the land of MS people choose not to buy Vista (or a new car, or a better flat, or fancy clothes, or better food etc) because they have to budget their money and live on what they get.

Here's a clue... if people can't afford to buy Vista DON'T. As many people keep reminding those MS users: Linux is FREE and it is BETTER.

Free MS softwares for Free Promotion

Even though Microsoft's "secret" plan is to "encourage" Pinoys to use their product thru "Free" training using of course MS products, we also benefited of becoming computer literate. The knowledge of computer literacy "trainings" of MS products can easily be used in other equivalent products like Linux and Open Office. My point is Let's commend Microsoft for the assistance in making our teachers computer literate. However, Microsoft should also extends the priviledge to the schools by using MS products for Free. Why? Because every students produce by a Microsoft trained teachers will most likely recommend to the company they will be working in the future to use Microsoft products as well. The teachers are in fact giving a Free advertisement and endorsement to use Microsoft products. Yes! Microsoft is offering schools academic discount to the schools, but in these time of Google, Friendster, MySpace and Facebook where companies are paying subtantial amount for advertisement. Microsoft should "recognized" the schools contribution in making MS products specially Windows and MS Office still the source most of its revenues. We welcome your help in trainings and we will appreciate it more if you can give the schools free usage of your software for free endorsement of your products.
