WHILE SOME MARKET consolidation moves do happen, others break apart.

One of the most expected mergers or joint-ventures was between GigaByte Technology and Asustek's motherboard division, but after only two months of existence this joint venture has been called off.

Gigabyte United had revenues of $66 million in February and combined revenue of $119.08 million in January-February timeframe, shipping over 2.2 million motherboards and 380,000 graphics cards.

Gigabyte was the company that called off the JV, citing uncertainties about the future of GigaByte as a company in the channel and among other partners.

This is not the first time Gigabyte has considered a merger with someone. A couple of years ago, the company started merger talks with heads over at MSI, but it all ended as a one night stand. µ
