WinXP has problem with AMD mobile chips too

Oops again

IT'S NOTJUST INTEL'S Tualatin mobile processors, the Pentium III-M, that's having problems coping with Microsoft's bright new shiny OS, Windows XP.

Yesterday we reported that some Pentium III-M systems that came installed with XP could overheat and might not use its SpeedStep technology properly. (See here)

According to this document on the Great Vole of Software's site, Powernow may not work under Windows XP.

The problem applies to both XP Domestic and XP Professional, and says that mobile Athlons using Powernow may find that the promised battery performance gains may not materialise.

Microsoft says an additional driver is now available, but rather worryingly says that "the fix may receive additional testing at a later time, to further ensure product quality."

Translated, this means we've solved the problem but haven't quite finished solving the problem. µ
