Manhunt finally gets to murder UK

BBFC brutally done in
Tuesday, 11 December 2007, 13:27

AFTER MONTHS OF APPEALS and to and fro with the BBFC, it looks like Rockstar is finally going to get its wish to have Manhunt 2 published here in the UK.

The BBFC had originally declined to rate the game twice, citing its extreme violence as a reason to deny it even an 18 rating. The title was originally denied a release Stateside after the ratings board there gave it an Adults-Only rating, leading the platform holders to withhold a licence for it.

However, a modified version of the game did get rated Mature and went on sale in October - although it is not clear whether the version now allowed release in the UK will be the original or the toned-down version.

The irony is that the last few Manhunt games haven't exactly been best sellers, so the idea that the release of this game is somehow crucial to Rockstar's bottom line is far-stretched. It would probably cost the rogues less not to release it - especially since it's purely publicity fodder for the Mail, Express, et al. µ
