3DLABS HAS ANNOUNCED its new Wildcat Realizm 500 PCI graphics accelerator, supposedly offering high-end graphical performance to Computer-aided Design (CAD) and Digital Content and Creation (DCC) professionals.

The press release states that the accelerator has twice the onboard memory of any competing mid-range graphics accelerator. It also is said to beat other competing mid-range accelerators on five SPEC Viewperf 8.1.0 viewsets. The Wildcat Realizm 500 scored over 48 frames per second on the 3ds max-03 viewset, which is 29% higher than "the closest competing PCI Express-based product."

The Realizm 500 supports the OpenGL 2.0 API and Windows XP 32 and 64-bit systems. The kit integrates a Visual Processing Unit, or VPU, and 256MB of GDDR3 memory onto a 256-bit wide bus, as well as packing two single-link DVI-I connectors, a stereo connector and two DVI to VGA display adaptors.

You can expect the Realizm 500 to ship by the end of August and will be available for $899.99. µ
