Time proclaims Web 2.0 "person of the year"

Community, sheer anarchy, or just lunacy?
Mon Dec 18 2006, 08:58
AUGUST PUBLICATION Time magazine can't find an individual worthy of getting its prestigious "person of the year" award.

So instead it has hit on the wizard wheeze of choosing "you" in the shape of Internet users as "person of the year".

It thinks Wackopedia and You Tube have transformed the world with the "many wresting power from the few".

Of course, only the absurdly cynical would suggest that the real challenge of the Internet is to august publications and august TV stations. And that firms spending gazillions buying up sites like YouTube and MySpace have kind of missed the point. µ
