Social networking for phones pitches up

Ad-funded chatter

A NEW MOBILE NETWORKING service, touted by its creators as a potential "MySpace killer," has been launched today by advert-funded mobile content provider Pitch.

Pitch's new service will compliment all the free mobile goodies already up for grabs, such as videos, games, ringtones and screensavers, by providing social networking apps on the phones of users. The service will allow users to create their own portable little mobile home page along with their own username and inbox, which will let users send messages to each other and participate in real-time chats, if they so fancy. Pictures and such will, as per usual with these social stalking tools, be able to be upped onto the site.

No charge is asked for the service, meaning users will only have to pay the inevitable data charges. Pitch reckons this way of communication is significantly cheaper than the typical SMS option.

An enlightened CEO of Pitch, Lourens de Beer said, "The mobile phone has taken the next step in becoming the ultimate and indispensable social communication tool."

Contender MySpace recently launched a mobile service, though Pitch seems to reckon the MySpace Mobile service is in "serious danger" of missing out on the busy and competitive mobile space. µ
