SSDs tip up in laptop-handy Expresscard format

CeBIT 2008 Another really good idea

THERE WERE TWO things that caught my eye from Team, an SSD and a memory stick. One is high performance the other far less so.

The one that makes me drool is the Expresscard/34 SSD, quite simply an SSD that fits into your laptop card slot.

Team Express Card SSD

This one has 25/18MBps R/W performance, and comes in 32 and 64G variants with a 128 on to follow soon. Prices will of course vary with flash pricing.

Team DDR3 2133 DIMM

On the other side of the spectrum, Team has announced DDR3 at 2133MHz. Of course at this speed, timing is 10-10-10-30. Once again, not much to say, it is DDR3, fast as heck, and it has the requisite spiffy heatsink. µ

Old news

I first saw ExpessCard SSDs on the shelves back in January, and since that was an airport Dixons (CurrysDigitalwhatever) I can safely bet they've been around a few months before then ;)

Lexar seems to have a nice range, and Sandisk do too; if you can find them anywhere on their website...

beware of EC USB crap

many expresscards simply use usb (expresscard is always pcie x1 + usb), so most expresscard "ssds" i've seen are just repackaged usb sticks

Do you think the move was justified?
