Blu-ray not for sale in US

Recorders only for the Japanese
Tue Oct 03 2006, 17:20
BLU-RAY MANUFACTURERS and supporters don't want to sell high-definition recorders in the U.S.

According to ZDNet, the Japanese are convinced that the Americans will not buy them.

A Toshiba spokesman said that the Americans were too keen on their Tivo recorders and were not that interested in digital recording. However, the Japanese cannot get enough of digital content and will probably want Blu-ray straight away.

Toshiba also thinks that the recorders are going to be a bit expensive for the US market at the moment.

We can't see how the Japanese hope to establish a worldwide standard while at the same time hanging onto the only gear on the market.
