Kingston 20 years old

Sun and Tu laugh all the way to the memory bank
Wednesday, 17 October 2007, 08:25

MEMORY FIRM Kingston Technology is celebrating 20 years of existence with the original founders John Tu and David Sun still steering the barque.

We met them at a Comdex just hours after they'd sold their business for a massive amount of money to a Japanese conglomerate. They were laughing.

Then they bought it back off the same company for less than they paid for it. Then they were laughing again.

The firm introduced its first SIMM in 1987 at a time when its competition included Intel, which used to have a memory product range called Above Board.

Looking at my International Software Guide I see that Intel was flogging an AT full length memory board with a staggering 4MB of memory for an equally staggering £1,539. Sheesh! µ
