DDR3 costs an arm and a leg

2GB cost more than GeForce 8800GTS or Radeon HD 2900XT

WE ALWAYS KNEW that DDR3 was going to be expensive, and now we are getting our suspicons confirmed.

While checking Alternate.de, one of the leading European e-tailers we found that the company is now offering an Asus P35 Express motherboard in conjuction with 2GB of DDR3 memory.

Now, it turns out that the price difference between buying just the motherboard (Asus P5K3 Deluxe/WiFi-AP) and the above mentioned bundle results in a price difference of a staggering €455. For €455, you can get four Corsair Dominator PC2-6400C4 modules for a grand total of 4GB DDR2 memory and a 4GB USB stick. If you want something else, you might consider a 20-inch wide screen LCD monitor or a snappy new DirectX 10 graphics card from the high-end land, such as overclocked GeForce 8800GTS 640MB or ATI Radeon HD2900XT 512MB. If you go for a graphics card, you still have Euro to spare.

What's even more weird is the fact that the bundle of motherboard+2GB DDR3-1066 costs couple of Euro more than buying both separately. ยต
