Fri Jul 01 2005, 20:24
AT WOOT, an online community which provides exceptionally good hardware deals, there's a 3GHz HP computer with a 17-inch LCD for only $904.99, including free shipping and handling and a one-year HP warranty. The processor is a 630 version with HT technology. You get 1GB DDR PC3200 memory, a 250GB SATA HDD, a DVD ROM and a Lightscribe enabled HP drive. Other features include a Realtek Intel HD sound chipset, keyboard, mouse, 17-inch LCD panel and much more.

Onecall sells the Sony DVPCX985V Mega CD Changer for a mere $294.65 - not $399 as indicated on the page, check out to confirm the price. It is actually cheaper than some motorized CD changers I've seen. It is a 400-disc, progressive DVD player compatible with both DVD+/-R plus it can play MP3 as well.

Lookin' for a cheap game to lose an hour or two? Try Microsoft's Zoo Tycoon 2 which is on sale for only £1.99 today for the first 200 units. With full 3D graphics and more than 300+ building items, this second opus brings in even more entertainment and fun.

Contrary to what one might think, the cheapest 17-inch LCD monitor is not found on Ebay, instead, you can buy it at Amazon. At £119.99, it might seem to be expensive until you factor in VAT and the fact that it is delivered free. The Starlogic 17-inch LCD monitor offers a maximum resolution of 1280x1024 and a 16ms response time. Add to it two speakers and a contrast ratio of 400:1. DSubs only need apply.

It will prove to be a hard task for you to find a DirectX 9 compatible video card for less than £20. Scan is selling a 64MB AGP XFX card for £19.99+VAT. Apart from TVO, you don't get anything else. Spend £3 more and get yourself the SFX brand which apart from an additional 64MB RAM is also passively cooled.

If you can afford to go to the time to nip down Tottenham Court Road, to Morgancomputers - and therefore save on postage - you could snatch a MSI game bundle for only £29.99. Again you get the FX5200 card with 128MB memory and TVO. On top of that though you get a full version of Battlefield 1942, Unreal II and a MSI three button optical mouse. µ
