SONY HAS BEEN sued over the PS3's Cell processor which a Californian outfit claims breeches its patent.

According to Next-Gen, Parallel Processing claims that Sony's Cell infringes its patent no. 5,056,000 which talks about "Synchronised Parallel Processing with Shared Memory".

Issued in October 1991, the patent describes a high-speed computer that breaks down a program 'into smaller concurrent processes running in different parallel processors' and resynchronizes the program for faster processing times.

Parallel Processing said that Sony's use of its technology in the PS3 has caused it "irreparable harm and monetary damage". It wants every Cell chip recalled and stomped on.

It also wants damages from Sony too.
