Asustek's EEE now expected in October

Different SKUs for different pockets
Sunday, 23 September 2007, 14:56
SOURCES at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) last week said that the price of the much-vaunted Asustek EEE will vary greatly, depending on the configuration.

While the cheapest model might get out of the door for $239, more expensive models with better screens, peripherals and the like are set to cost very much more.

There are likely to be around four or five different configurations, and the highly specced model will cost very much more than the slated $239.

The lightweight models shown off at IDF were expected earlier than October - the bill of materials very much depends on configurations. While the cheapest seven inch screen now costs $40, the higher resolution screens will cost very much more. Battery life for four cells models is a meagre three hours.

Intel was showing off a data sheet last week which showed the configurations of the different EEEs.

The very cheapest one, with a recommended retail price of $199, is only available on tender. There will be four models in all, with the highest spec machine costing more like $399. µ
