Intel expands share of global chip sales

ACCORDING TO mate of Microsoft, Gartner, Intel can expect to see its market share of total global semiconductor sales increase to 12.2 per cent this year.

The chip counters reckon its down to continuing demand for laptop PCs that Intel is doing so well. They reckon Intel will boost overall market share from 11.6 per cent last year.

Gartner said that Intel enjoyed revenue growth of twice the market average during 2007. Global sales will total $270.3 billion, up 2.9 per cent on last year.

Among other chip-making firms, Toshiba stands out as having a good year enjoying increased revenues of 28 per cent. µ
