Rivet to hold AMD ship together

Doing the executive shuffle
Friday, 24 October 2008, 13:58

BOB RIVET has been sideswiped from his position as Chief Financial Officer at Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) into what looks like an all-encompassing role at the helm of the Intel-chasing chip maker.

According to a company report, Rivet will become Chief Operations Officer but will continue to carry out administrative duties until head honcho Dirk Meyer finds another high-calibre bean-counter to replace him in the finance department.

With tech companies shedding staff at an alarming rate, there should soon be some suitable candidates swimming about in the shark pool.

Rivet has held the purse strings at AMD since 2000 having served his time at Motorola's chip shop.

Dirk Meyer said, "Bob's proven operational discipline and leadership will help AMD evolve operationally as a smarter, more flexible company."

On the sales side of the firm, Emilio Ghilardi will be recalled from his tenure in the Middle East and Africa to head up global sales at the beginning of 2009. ยต

A CPA might be an idea

Having an accountant (a CPA) in the management team at AMD might be a good idea.

I recommend that they consider one as such.

They are very good with money.

Something to think about too ...

hmm.

I think its a great idea to give a promotion to the CFO of a company which is completely floundering financially. Makes complete sense to me and aligns terribly well with the "accountability" Hector used to harp on.

While we're at it, why doesnt AMD fire some more employees and give him a fat 3M dollar bonus like Hector got in the 8K filing - after all, as long as he gets his - it doesnt matter what is done to the employees.

Turion Ultra

How about cranking out some Turion Ultra (65nm with a 2Mb cache) chips for AM2 then ... instead of just S1.

Nobody has picked up on the significance of this chip (3 flavours too) yet??

Is it just me or are you tech guru's blind to the significance of a better potential X2 chip on the scene ... and you missed it!!

Bet it will crank up well as an overclocker too !!

Damn them for the S1 insult !!!
