One of the objections raised to the story was that it was based on an AMD roadmap posted on Tom's Hardware Guide, a site, it was noted, with a proclivity towards knocking up its own graphics. In this case, however, we reckon the roadmap is genuine, although this site, translated here thinks differently.
However, another objection raised was that the Roadmap is old. And we feel inclined to agree with that. Old, rather than faked, we'd suggest. Indeed, a Chinese site posted something similar back in June. AMD has told us that despite some reports the to contrary, its schedule for releasing Hammer-based chips remains in line with previous guidance. "The roadmaps have not been changed at all," an AMD spokesman insisted. And the desktop Hammer, the Athlon DT, let's call it, will ship they say, at the end of Q1 2003.
Another suggestion was that the labelling attached to the ClawHammer, naming it as the Athlon DT, may be an internal suggestion and may not be the final label hung on the chip. This is indeed possible and we admit that we can't be certain that this isn't the case. The guess is, we'll have to wait and see...
Ok. Here's a selection of the letters:
Subject: Prepare to receive the Athlon DT 3000+
The AMD processor roadmap referred to in your article looks like an old or superceded one to me. Why else would
there only be reference to 266MHz FSB, when AMD has already launched (or at least announced) 333 MHz FSB processors.
THG will print any old shite just to get a few more hits, I reckon.

Graham
Subject: Roadmap
Doesn't this roadmap for AMD look dated to you. Not only has AMD mentioned Clawhammer moving to 2H '03, but the
FSB of all the Athlons mentioned is 266. We already know that there are Athlon XP's (Thoroughbred core) with 333 FSB.
Looks like Tom has another old roadmap.

Subject: Prepare to receive the Athlon DT 3000+
We all get confused on roadmaps sometimes. However, citing a roadmap from the source you did, not recognizing the
content is more than just lil bit older obviously (including Bartons with specifications revised months ago) and on top
of that citing 3000+ where the source reads >3000+ does the article make ... not exactly a bright piece of
journalism.
What about a followup on this before get p*ssed on the weekend?

Paul,

I just wanted to point out that the roadmap says ">3000+", not "3000+".

That could still be consistent with the presumed 3400+ at release.

I have reviewed the roadmap that you linked on your news article and have interpreted it a different way. The
Athlon DT has a >3000+ as a speed rating, meaning it will tip up at greater than 3000+ speeds. Would they not have
used >=3000+ if they were starting at 3000+?

Unfortunately the article on Tom's has some glaring errors. For example, how can a ClawHammer have a TPD of
80-85 watts when the power converters only supply about 70? See
here that this is to
also support the Opteron, which presumably draws a bit more power...
