REM dabbles with open sourcery

Radiohead wannabes come up short
Thu Feb 14 2008, 18:36

BAND OF WARBLING mandolin-playing troubadours R.E.M has released a bunch of 11 promotional videos from its new album - in an open source style.

The digital HD delights are in MP4 format and can be fiddled with by fans, should they feel the urge. You can get them somewhere like here.

The open source licence business is a bit of a spin designed to make it look like the auld crooners are on their fans' wavelength. They want the results uploaded to Youtube to drum up a bit of publicity. And at their age they need it.

The album, Accelerate," is due to be released on April 1st. Like we're falling for that. ยต

But hey...

...at least the RIAA won't profit from this move. Anytime that can be said, I am all for whatever the move may be.
