Humanity is acquiring all the right technology for all the wrong reasons - R. Buckminster Fuller
Symantec, whose CEO John Thompson said a month ago said that he didn't need Microsoft's latest operating system to do what he did, has released software which combines antivirus, antispyware, firewall, intrusion protection, anti-phishing, backup and tune-up.
The big idea is that punters no longer have to purchase and manage multiple products. There is even a a free optional add-on pack with Anti-Spam and Parental Controls arriving in a few weeks.
The official release says that the software was designed to "leverage" the Windows operating system. We are guessing that this particular piece of marketing speak means that it will take advantage of the fact that there will be people who buy the "super secure Vista" who need a bit more security. Either that or Symantec plans to use the box to lift heavy objects.
Norton 360 will cost US$80 including a one-year service subscription to use the product and receive Symantec's protection updates. It can be installed on up to three PCs. ยต
