XFX to overclock 7950GX2 to 570MHz

Default works at 500MHz
Friday, 2 June 2006, 10:28
WE HEAR THAT the mighty Udjes Desai, chief of Geforce desktop business at Nvidia, won't allow its partners to overclock the first Geforce 7950 GX2 cards. Despite that, some of them will come up with the faster cards. Nvidia wanted to be a little more conservative with the first batch of cards but XFX made a deal with the big, green firm.

We are not surprised to learn that XFX decided to go for it, as it bases its whole marketing push on overclocking and delivering faster performance. XFX calls it Play Hard.

You should be able to grab one of the 7950 cards next week all over the USA, Europe and Asia. If you go for XFX, the boys will have three variations. The cheapest is the XFX 7950GX2 1GB clocked at default 500MHz clock and listed as PV-T71U-ZDL9 which might actually cost as little (cough!) as $555.00. These are not the final prices but rather distributor to partner price so the final retail/etail price will have another slice of margin in there somewhere.

The second card XFX 7950GX2 1GB, clocked at 520MHz and listed as PV-T71U-ZDF9 is priced at $572.00. The third and most souped-up one, clocked to 570MHz, the XFX 7950GX2 1GB PV-T71U-ZDD9 is listed for $625.00.

The cards should surface next week and we cannot wait to test any of them as they look really attractive, price-performance wise.

At least you can expect that some Geforce 7950 GX2 cards will end up faster than others. µ
