Intel sticks Glide OS onto PCs

Windows alliance looks even shakier

INTEL'S long term relationship with Microsoft is taking a battering, with Chipzilla wading into support a new operating system for ultra mobile PCs.

According to Red Herring, Intel has surprised TransMedia Chairman and CEO Donald Leka, which makes the Glide operating system, by providing it with lots more help than he expected.

Glide runs in direct competition to Microsoft's Windows XP Tablet Edition software and uses a touch-screen interface. Ultimately it will rival Vole's forthcoming Origami tablet PC project.

The web-based products which it has on board will also compete with Google's Writely and Google Spreadsheets, as well as Microsoft Word and Excel. Glide already has a close relationship with Apple. Glide works within any browser. µ
