Nvidia partners play Price Is Right
NVIDIA TOLD THE INQ a couple of weeks back that it would do "Whatever it takes" to stay competitive with DAAMIT, following the red team's release of a (shockingly) rather decent Radeon part.
When it comes down to it, what that means is that prices will move to where they need to be, regardless of cost or consequence, for the sake of staying in the game. In recent weeks, the GTX 280 and 260 parts from Nvidia have seen a price slashing, with as much as $200 being knocked off the top models, which were previously retailing for $699 - and now cost just $499.
Obviously, that's going to leave a rather bitter taste in the mouth of early suckers adopters - who are used to getting screwed, but not that badly.
Luckily for them, help is at hand as Nvidia is passing on some discounts to its board partners who are, in turn, offering rebates for early buyers of the GTX 200 line.
BFG is offering up to $120 back in cash, EVGA up to $125 and XFX $120.
Early owners can spend their free spondoolicks on whatever they so please. Here at the INQ, we would recommend beer rather than bits. µ

Nvidia is doing right here, and so are (so far) two add-in vendors by passing the rebates onto the consumer.
Well, these pages are only on the US arms of the respective companies... and the amounts are all in dollars. Is this rebate available outside the US as well?
Yipee, a fist-fight !! whilst not forgetting that “Nature” [hokay, the mysterious force emanating from one’s orifice] uses the fears within egos to level their intrinsic accumulations. Let no amateur beancounter imagine that he knows how much these mavericks make – it’s just that their “expenditures” [including slimy gymnastic paper entries] are racing too far ahead of their desires. Easy-come, easy-go is the motto when you’ve accumulated far in excess of your nett worth. Even a £100 4870/260 is too much in reality for when their needs are properly quenched, even the whores/pimps will be screaming, “Enough”. But thereafter, where would the excitements go to? Better stick with the addictions then. How about a 280 for £150 and even then, nobody owes anybody any favours. Why? Because worshipping comes with a big stick.
Checked this out with BFG and nothing is being offered for UK or European customers as yet. Got fleeced on two GTX260s myself, kicking myself as have wasted some money this year. UK makes me angry, pay over the odds add VAT and then no Rebate - just have to bend over and take it again thanks Nvidia lol
