500 sardines watch 103-inch Panasonic plasma display

Consumer Electronics Show 2006 Hot and sweaty

PANASONIC SHOWED off its 1080p 103-inch pixelly plasma screen at booth 9405 today but if your house is big enough for one of these, maybe it's big enough to take the 500+ hacks that were packed in to observe the gig.

The real purpose of this hot and sweaty experience was for Panasonic and Comcast to announce a partnership so that you'll be able to watch cable movies.

There were so many people packed into the booth that we had to make our excuses and leave before meltdown and in any case it was hard to watch the 103-inch screen over everyone's heads in any case. But the sound quality was truly gruesome, a gritty sort of sound that set our teeth on edge.

Luckily we were positioned in our particular part of the sardine can so that we could watch the autocue and make some sense of the otherwise bewildering presentation. µ
