WAL-MART has begun offering a $199 Linux PC powered by VIA's C7-D Processor.

The Everex TC2502 Green gPC comes with 512MB of DDR2 system memory and a 80GB hard disk.

It runs gOS operating system, which is based on Ubuntu 7.10, and, apparently, sports a friendly green front end.

You can buy yours here. µ

(btw, i know it was BestBuy that was involved in that case, but wart-mart is not that far off from their practices either.)

ebay

I guess this is a good alternative for people who couldn't be arsed with finding something far better for less on eBay

best-buy practices

now i disagree. i always get attitude from customer service when i return something, as if it's the customer service rep i'm actually returning something to and not some big corporation. they always open the box and look at me with one eye while checking the contents.

Give 'em to the Third World kids

At $199, they're cheaper than the "$100 computers" that are now expected to cost $200.

Someone on the wall mart site is saying that the machine can't run XP.... surely that shouldn't be allowed on there?
