Seal Clubbers? Rotten Beer?
Buddy you dont have a clue. You Blightys need to take a day off from your constant critisism of other coutries you know absolutely nothing about. Your ignorance is humorous pinhead.
Go Brush your Rotten teeth (most likely caused by your thick, Syrup-like excuse for real beer) and clean your 300 sq ft Flat you call a home.
I guess I can fully understand your critisism, as you really want to live here in a real country. It's funny you have to make up for your "shortcomings" ie: Small Penile Boy

Love those legs - if I were batting for the other team I'd say I was really impressed. Love those white socks and black shoes, too - but sadly w/o the button up shirt and pocket protector, Charlie just isn't quite the perfect geek.

Subject: AMD + ATI = Doomed
Ever watch two cubs huddle together when the tree they climbed up is burning?
Not a pretty sight.
That's how I'm seeing AMD and ATI from the looks of all the articles and benchmarks. Both used to be superior now both are falling off their burning trees because Intel and Nvidia pulled out some Sun Tzu Art of War moves.
Speaking of AMD and ATI, my once state-of-the-art $3000 dollar custom built machine (Athlon 3000+, Radeon X850 XT) has finally reached minimal spec for "Bioshock". I mean look at the minimal specs!
"Minimum System Requirements:
CPU: Pentium 4 2.4GHz Single Core processor
System RAM: 1GB
Video Card: Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 128MB RAM (NVIDIA 6600 or better/ATI X1300 or better,
excluding ATI X1550).
Sound Card: 100% direct X 9.0c compatible sound card
Hard disk space: 8GB free space"
I mean Wow! I'm scratching rock bottom now.

Yes you are. There is this weird thing about photography, you can photograph things from many angles, some of which don't show everything.
I know you are probably used to reality TV, but the real world is not always set up like that. If you doubt, may I suggest you write Intel PR and ask, specifically US PR.

I feel so sorry for the employees at First Data
. I expect that he's going to swoop in, "Make his Mark" (kind of like the way dogs make their mark on fire hydrants) and after about 3 years, collect his golden parachute.
I predict that First Data will be worse off three years from now.

Just read your article on The Pirate Bay's last encounter with Swedish law enforcement and just wanted to say it's nice to see journalists actually not blindly taking the side of authorities in a case where fundamental democratic rights such as freedom of speech and the separation between judgment, policing and execution are at stake.
The behavior of the Swedish police in this case is absolutely embarrassing but the lack of criticism and analysis among the Swedish mainstream media is even worse. They should be able to see it's there own freedom which is at stake when the police thinks they can shut sites down on nothing more than "a hunch".
So, kudos!

"Canadian caveman here has been sent back up to the northern wilderness where he belongs. Get back to the home of rubbish beer and seal-clubbing, big boy."
Great job. Completely offend a country with a population the size of California for absolutely no reason. It might be forgivable if the article was at least well written but the truth is that the reader is left without the meat. Was this an AMD publicity stunt or some kind of competition? Readers are left scratching their heads wondering wtf was actually going on. There isn't even a link for us to follow to find out since you have failed to do the job of a journalist. More effort went into thinking up tag lines for this article than actually writing it in any comprehensive manner so that we might be able to figure out what you are talking about. The Inquirer has always been a guilty pleasure but poorly written articles like this take the pleasure out of the mix. I know you come from the land of bad teeth and foul weather (okay I couldn't resist) but surely you can apply better journalistic standards than this.

Subject: Respond to Letter about Xbox failures
This guys obviously knows something about the RoHS requirement and something about electronics manufacturing. But he/she is way out of line and out of his/her expertise in the comments about RoHS solder reliability. The comments are pretty ignorant of the electronics manufacturing industry.
It is a general preconception that Pb-free solder is more brittle than leaded solder. This is true. However, in terms of board level reliability, Pb-free solder out performs leaded solder in temperature cycling tests (at a ratio of about 4:3 to 5:3); I have actual reliability studies from my previous company and various research paper from IEEE that documents this. The brittle solder joint issue only comes into effect under mechanical shock which undoubtedly puts Pb-free solder at an disadvantage. However, there are mitigation strategy in board design level that can overcome this disadvantage; ie having a bigger solder mask opening on the board (meaning larger wetting area for solder). Additionally, there are industry standard test methods (Jedec, EIA, ANSI) to validate mechanical shock reliability. As far as I know, Xbox 360 were tested against these requirements. Furthermore, Xbox 360 is not the first electronic device that is RoHS compliant (in fact, it is one of the last). The technology that was involved with meeting RoHS requirement had been proven many times over.
The reliability issues that the 360 is facing is directly related to the thermal management of the system. I previously worked for the manufacturing subcon for MS on this project. I have seen and still have a copy of the thermal modeling report that was performed on the GPU. Considering the passive heatsink without heat-pipe configuration, the GPU is barely below the maximum junction temperature of chip at maximum power load; by barely, I mean the predicted temp is 1 degree below the max junction temp. This is from a numerical model. In normal cases (for example if MS was ATi or Nvidia), this is not acceptable. Even the most desperate of design houses would put at least a 10% margin against the numerical model. Not MS, they ran with the passive heatsink without heat-pipe design into production.
In addition to the thermal management problem, there is also the first level board problem. For the Xbox 360 CPU and GPU, the first level board (the bga board under the flip chip) required 20um/20um line width and space. Two years ago, no substrate manufacturer can achieve this requirement. A few high end substrate players (Kyocera, Nanya and PPT) developed this process specifically for MS. Needless to say, yields were extremely low (in the 40% range). For high reliability products (ie for military or medical), any lot yield below 85% is considered castastrophic failure and is rejected. At 40% yield, no one can guarantee the variation from part-to-part that is "not" tested in process; and obviously, no manufacturer can test for everything in process.
This was from my understanding of the 360 project while I was working for MS's subcon two years ago. This was phase 1 of the 360 project. After I left my previous company, I heard there were design iterations for the GPU and CPU so problem like thermal management and manufacturing yield should improve.
But, yes, MS has some very incompetent people looking after the manufacturing of the Xbox 360.
Later,
Ed
