XFX has 6800XT in retail

Since September in AGP only
Tuesday, 1 November 2005, 11:43
AFTER MANY moons we managed to talk to one of the top XFX chaps and get some of the graphic questions cleared up.

We wrote a story about 6800XT cards and you can read it here and said those cards are still missing in action.

Sorry. It turns out that XFX is shipping 6800XT based cards since late September but we failed to find it in any of the usual cyberspaces.

XFX confirmed that its cards are clocked to 325MHz core and 700MHz DDR one memory. It features 128MB of memory and is an AGP only card. The company noticed that there is still strong demand for AGP high end and mainstream cards. There are a lot of AGP systems around.

This GPU is based on NV40 marchitecture while XFX never made a PCIe version of the card based on the NV42 core. It didn't see any sense doing it and jeopardising its very well selling 6800 standard range of cards.

The company is bundling Nascar 2004, a game where you spin around in circles and try to be the fastest and it also includes a video editing suite called 3D Edit. It offers Call of Duty 2 with its 7800GT cards.

Those cards are available at Scan.co.uk, Komplett.co.uk and Ebuyer.co.uk. Get them while they are still there.

Those cards cost around £120 depends on the store. So the cards are out there and its AGP only at this time and we will sniff to find if anyone apart of Asus going to make PCIe version of 6800XT cards. µ
