A US FIRM has introduced a solid state thin client which attaches to any network and comes with a slim Linux based OS.

The Hot-E, designed in combination by Aussie John Nicholls and Viewtouch owner Gene Mosher, uses a version of Linux which runs in RAM and loads over a network using TFTP.

ThinLinX software will run on either the Hot-E or PCs, and includes drag and drop menu authoring. Mosher has a pedigree - he claimed to have developed the first graphic touchscreen POS systems over 20 years back.

The software the Hot-E it uses is Viewtouch POS while the Hot-E itself has a custom implementation of Diet PC, a blend of file systems. You can demo the system worldwide on your machine by going to this page. You'll need X and SSH installed.

The firm is already designing a mobile handheld version of the Hot-E, said proprietor Gene Mosher. µ
