Let's look at this from an NV perspective, also known as letters from the land of spinning make-believe, gumdrops and kittens with big eyes. There is nothing wrong with the G84 and 86. There are no separate 2D clocks that were introduced with the NV43 (6600) and put on every chip since they were removed from these two chips because of sunspots or something. The external power connector on the GTS is not a bad thing either, in fact, it doesn't even exist.

There is no power problem, really, and the A03 stepping that is due in the near future has nothing to do with it. In fact, bumping the core voltage from 1.3V to 1.375V(1) is simply doing their part to make those pesky polar bears go away quicker, not indicative of any problems. Silly customers, polar bears can eat you.
There is also no truth to to the rumour that notebook vendors who picked G8x for Santa Rosa based designs are now delaying those until they get the not-needing-a-fix A03 parts. Isn't the weather nice?(2)
So, in summary, believe the story that nothing is wrong, they won't say it publicly, but they will put out memos for others to say for them. This is because nothing is really wrong, honest. There is no man behind the curtain, Iraq is a functioning democracy at last, and drivers work well too. µ
(1) (1.375^2)/(1.3^2) ~= 1.12 or a 12% bump in power.
(2) It was snowing sideways here yesterday in mid-April. It shouldn't do that.
The comment about Iraq's funtioning democracy is where i stopped reading and stopped assigning any credibility to the author.
You're squaring of the ratio of voltages doesn't make sense unless the current changed. P=IV, I=const. Pf/Pi = IVf/IVi = Vf/Vi. Actually only an increase of ~5%.
