CNN hit by ancient worm

Forgot to read its own news

TURNER BROADCASTING System, seem to have ignored the dire warnings of its own online technology rag and been walloped by a malicious bot program that is nearly a year old.

The Delbot malware spreads through several holes in Microsoft code as well as a known flaw in Symantec's antivirus software.

It is not entirely Symantec's fault, it warned of the hole back in May in the pages of Turner Broadcasting's own techie organ news.com whn it issued a patch. However it seems that Turner Broadcasting did not bother to upgrade its own Symantec software.

The firm seems pretty lousy at fixing holes in its network. CNN, another Turner outfit was walloped by the Zotob worm that took advantage of a security hole in the plug-and-play feature in the Windows 2000. The Vole had offered a fix for the bug but CNN couldn't be bothered.

The story is reported in the oft-ignored News.com here. ยต
