Apple "is a victim" of rapacious record companies

While Euro governments are gutless
Wed Apr 04 2007, 04:44
THE RECORD COMPANIES are the true targets of an EC antitrust investigation and Apple is just a victim of the system, a representative of the commissioners told the Wall Street Journal.

Frankly, it is hard to see Apple or Steve Jobs as victims of anything, but we'll let that slide, pro tem.

The EC rep said that licensing agreements were imposed on Apple by the record companies, aided and abetted by European licensing authorities in Europe who block pan European standardisation on prices.

Apparently, weak kneed and gutless member countries of the European Union have allowed themselves to be pressured to block cross country licensing.

The WSJ named French royalty collectors Sacem as an example of such body but that drew an injured response from a representative of that group who denied there was a conspiracy to block pan-European licensing.
