Finns throw phones further

Germans come second
Wed Oct 20 2004, 07:57
HANG ON A minute. While, the INQ reported yesterday that Nico Morawa from the town of Kamenz in Germany had thrown a mobile phone 67.50 metres (nearly 223 feet) in Wehnde, Thuringia, on Sunday 17th 2004, that wasn't the world record.

At the 5th international Mobile Phone Throwing World Championships held on Saturday August 28th 2004 in Savonlinna Kirkkopuisto, a Nokia handset flew 82.55 meters. The thrower was Ville Piippo from Helsinki. The organisers claimed the feat as the world record.

As expected nearly all the competitors were Finnish but there was at least one Brit, Paul Howartu. It seems that the Germans may have acquired the American habit of declaring a World series by dint of banning the better players. That's why Cuba can't participate in the World baseball series, isn't it? µ
