Switch off your PC and save the planet

Noise from the black stuff
Monday, 24 October 2005, 11:36
THE JURY is still out on whether planet Earth can be saved but Fujitsu Siemens reckons you can do your bit by turning off your PC when you've finished using it.

According to a report in the Independent, home PCs generate 220,000 tons of carbon dioxide when they're left on standby.

If you count other devices left on standby, Fujitsu Siemens a million tons of carbon fly into the atmosphere each year.

If you live or work in London you will probably notice lumps of this black stuff get up your nose much more than in other large European cities.

The survey is interesting because we're pretty sure remembering the late and lamented Compaq telling us 10 years ago that it was more wasteful to keep turning PCs on and off. ยต
