BREAKING A COMPANY record, Asustek shipped 700,000 of its little Eee PCs last month.
The company’s September shipments bumped third quarter numbers up to 1.7 million units, a figure Asus says should be eeeasy to maintain through the fourth quarter too.
With little Eees flying off the shelves like hot cakes, Asus has been able to take a sizable 15-20 per cent gross margin on the netbooks, but with Acer snapping at the firm’s heels, some analysts are skeptical as to how long Asus can keep that up.
However, seeing as not all of Asus’ eggs are in one 10-inch basket, the firm doesn’t really seem to have much cause for concern. Last week the company revealed its P45-based motherboards made up a whopping 80 per cent of all global shipments, with 6.12 million units going out of the door in Q3 alone. That represented a growth of 20 per cent, five per cent higher than Asus’ original prediction for the quarter.
Admittedly, Asus still has some way to go if it wants to beat its own goal of shipping 24 million motherboards this year. So far, the firm has ‘only’ managed to ship 17.22 million units in Q3.
Still, far as we can tell, its all looking ship shape in the house of Asus. µ

I put a special Eee Ubuntu version on mine and it's great. I use it every day to stream Rush Limbaugh off the net. Yeah thats right and Rush rocks.
