Volish Xbox executive J Allan admitted to hacks that he has a Playstation 2 displayed in his office with a machine gun bullet through the centre. He hinted that a Playstation 3 would replace it when Sony releases its new version in the Spring.
It would appear that criticism of the Xbox pricing might be getting on top of Vole, if its idea of marketing includes machine gunning the rival's kit.
Vole intends to have a two stage price model with a $400 model costing more than many past consoles at launch, and the $300 "core system" requiring people to spend more over time if they purchase the missing components, such as a hard drive.
Allard said that he took his inspiration on the pricing structure from the reassuringly expensive entertainment gear maker Apple.
He said that it costs three grand on a Macintosh and come to the performance of Xbox 360 without games. In comparison, Voles pricing was quite a bargain, he claimed.
