Gainward scores 10010 in 3Dmark05

Preview The fastest clocked aircooled 7800 GTX 512
Thursday, 1 December 2005, 10:56
WE MANAGED to get one of the Gainward 7800 GTX 512 cards with its short Gainward PowerPack Ultra/3550PCX (7800GTX 512MB) name and we got a top 3Dmark05 score out of it. Without any overclocking, this Gainward PowerPack Ultra/3550PCX based on Geforce 7800GTX 512 card can score 10010 in 3Dmark05. This is our lab record and we have to inform you that we are using Athlon X2 4800+ and that the score might be even higher with an FX 57.

Gainward card is clocked a little bit faster than XFX card that we tested here as it's running at 580 MHz core and 1730 MHz memory. Gainward increased the memory speeds for 30 MHz and finalised the clocks to 580MHz core and 1760MHz memory. This is the speed you will get out of the box. EVGA is the only company that is shipping faster clocked cards but those guys are using water to get to 600 MHz core and 1800 MHz memory but this air-cooled card is just a little behind those speeds.

You can get Gainward to 600 MHz core and 1800 MHz air-cooled anyway but you won't manage to go much more than that. Some cards will go to 630 or even 650 MHz+ but we are talking about very rare birds that are around. I would call them kiwi rare edition and you really need to be lucky to get one of those.

Here is how the card looks like and you can expect a whole review shortly but we are still having a problem to run two Geforce 7800 GTX 512 in SLI on Nforce 4 SLI board or Nforce 4 SLI with 32 PCI lanes. We are still waiting for Nvidia's answer on that matter. We know it should not be graphic card or motherboard issue as its happening with various GTX 512 cards and with two different motherboards. It still makes us wonder. µ
