SINGAPOREAN CHIP FAB Chartered Semi says it has been talking to AMD about making 45nm chips for the firm.

Chartered has been making chips for AMD at 65nm and it comes as no surprise that the firms are discussing how to get to a 45nm process.

AMD has floated plans to build its own fab in New York State, but even if this goes ahead it'll be some time before it begins to churn out the chips.

According to Reuters, Chia Song Hwee, Chartered's president and chief executive, said, "We are in discussion with (AMD), there's no firm agreement yet."

Mind you in the same story Reuters says processors are "advanced chips that form the central "brains" of each PC. " ยต
