Japanese game vendors invade European sales structures

Middlemen become nowhere men
Mon Jan 20 2003, 09:31
A REPORT IN Japanese business paper the Nihon Keizai Shimbun said that games vendors will abandon European distributors in favour of their own sales operations.

That's because while the games market is growing in Europe, it's in decline in its home territory, the newspaper said.

It said that Sega will cut out its European middlemen and start selling to shops directly in just a ew months time.

It also reports that Electronic Arts will be replaced as the local German distributor in February by Capcom, which is also considering other sales outlets in other European countries.

And, it said, Koei will take over sales of games in Britain from US firm THQ this month.
